About the event

Dear South Florida Tango Community Member,

First and foremost, we hope you are all healthy and well in these troubled times. As you know, the Tango community has been severely impacted for an indefinite amount of time and a substantial amount of revenue has been lost. This is unfortunately risking the livelihoods of teachers, DJs, and organizers in our community and threatens our entire TANGO WORLD!

In an effort to recoup income that has been lost by South Florida area professional tango practitioners due to the pandemic, and to help ensure that our local tango community can survive, area tango teachers, organizers, and DJs have joined together to create a four-week online festival called Quarantango CyberFest 2020. The festival will feature classes, virtual milongas, live chats, behind-the-scenes experiences, live-streamed music and dance performances, and, direct from Argentina, an exclusive live-streamed concert by one of the most prestigious orchestras in the world: QUINTETO CACHIVACHE!

The following teachers, DJs, and organizers will be participating:

●  Adrian Veredice & Alejandra Hobert

●  Ana Padron

●  Armando Orzuza & Nuria Martinez

●  Carolina Balmaseda

●  Chantal Forgues

●  Diego Santana

●  Fernando Caceres

●  Jeremias Fors

●  Lorena Diez

●  Lydia Henson

●  Manny & Fabiola Castañera

●  Maria Alejandra Jimenez

●  Mariano Bejarano

●  Mariela Barufaldi

●  Maximiliano Alvarado & Paloma Berrios

●  Noelia Guerrero & Martin Cardozo

●  Pablo & Alicia Repun

●  Ray Sullivan

●  Yani Sar

●  Yanira Collado

The primary goal of this festival is to recoup at least a percentage of the income that our community’s professional tango practitioners have lost since the Coronavirus pandemic began over two months ago. All funds raised will be distributed amongst the participating teachers, Djs, and organizers. Our initial goal is to raise $30,000 which would represent about 60% of one month’s wages. If we can together reach that goal, we would love to keep going to raise funds to cover additional lost revenue and even future anticipated lost revenue since it is unlikely that we will be able to resume normal tango activities for some time. The other goal of the festival is to stay connected with each other and all of you and to continue to share and deepen our love for and knowledge of this beautiful art form!

We ask that you think about how much money you would have spent on milongas, classes, and other tango activities in our community during this time, were it not for the interruption of the coronavirus. We know that everyone has their own unique financial situation, but your support at whatever level is right for you will mean the world to our tango ecosystem and help ensure that tango will be there for you when this is all behind us.

Funds will be raised online via GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/quarantango-2020 You will see that we are offering different levels of donation and special packages with extra experiences to say thank you to higher-level donors.

(When you make your donation, you will see that the GoFundMe platform offers a tip option. While you are welcome to make a tip, please note that that additional money does not go to our fundraiser, it goes directly to GoFundMe. Therefore, if you don’t want to tip GoFundMe, you can select “other” and enter a tip of $0 if you wish.)

Donors of any level will be able to access a private Facebook group where behind-the-scenes content and live-streams will be shared and you can connect with your friends and participating teachers, DJs, and organizers. Festival milongas and classes will be delivered by Zoom via private links sent to donors at the appropriate level. Please note that the minimum donation to access milongas is $50. And to get access to the full festival content (milongas and classes) we ask that you donate a minimum of $100. We hope you will strongly consider the impact that a higher level donation will have on sustaining our community. Plus, you’ll enjoy some fun extra benefits!
